Colored rice is one of my favorite things to make for sensory play. It is very easy to make and there are a bunch of activities that you can do with it! When making colored rice, I like to make a BUNCH of it. Usually 8 cups of colored rice will last a whole year!!

The recipe calls for:
- 4 cups of white uncooked rice
- 4 teaspoons of white vinegar
- Gel food coloring
- Plastic baggies
- Wax paper or Parchment Paper
- Cookie Sheet
- Combine 4 cups of rice, 4 teaspoons of vinegar and food coloring, color of your choice, into a plastic bag.
- Hint: Measure exact with the vinegar or you might have a vinegar-small to your rice.
- Hint: Start with a small amount of food dye and increase until desired richness.
- Shake to combine the color with the rice. It will take a couple minutes for the rice to become fully dyed. Add more food dye, if needed.
- Add a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper to a large cookie sheet.
- Lay colored rice onto a cookie sheet to dry. Allow for 24 hours to dry.
- Hint: Stick in the oven or another pet/kiddo safe place to dry.
- Repeat step #1 with a new color.
Cost Breakdown: $15 for materials.
Stay tuned! Tomorrow, I’ll be sharing some sensory activity ideas you can do with the colored rice tomorrow.
Happy Vacation Week! ~Natalie
